Educator Information

About our Educators

Educators are people in the community who have chosen the career of providing home based care to children in their own homes. Educators are trained and monitored by the Coordination Unit.

Educator are required to comply with the Licensing Regulations set by the Department of Community Services, Scheme policies/procedures, and the Carer Participation Agreement.

Family Day Care operates on a maximum number of 7 children (maximum of 5 preschoolers/or 7 under the age of 12 including the Educators own children). The educators have a current First Aid Certificate, Child Protection training and attends professional development monthly training at the scheme which allows opportunites for educators to continue to provide a quality service for families and the community.

The educators, and any other persons over the age of 18 years who resides in the premises, have undergone a Working with Children Check. Premises are checked and approved by the scheme. The educators receive an annual home safety check certificate and the Child Development Officers visit all the Carers every three to four weeks.

Educators network to support each other in their role.

• Practical child care knowledge and/or childcare related qualifications
• Outgoing, flexible, approachable, warm and caring
• Organisational skills
• Communicate well on various levels
• Record keeping skills
• Work according to the Code of Conduct.
• Are willing to accept advice from the Scheme Staff and work within Scheme policies and requirements
• Offer quality child care on a full and/or part-time basis

Children's Daily Program

Educators plan their daily program according to the children's needs, incorporating stimulating activities that are developmentally suited to the ages of the children in care.

All children in care are closely monitored by their educators. If there should be a concern the Child Development Officer may be called in to do some observations and the parent will be informed of the outcome.
